crowded room brings me tie-dye?
Dec. 18th, 2007 04:46 pmyou know what I think is kind of weird about the English language? All the different names for clothing. like, pea coat, henley, button-down, cargo pants, muscle shirt, etc.
I mean. in danish, my wardrobe has: long-sleeved tops, short-sleeved tops, strappy-tops, jeans ( although in 'proper' Danish, they're called 'Cowboy pants' I kid you not ), pants, shorts, skirts, dresses. that's it. if I was telling someone in Danish that I'd be wearing a henley with dress pants, I'd say, 'I'll be wearing my some nice pants with that long-sleeved shirt, you know the one with the buttons?' we don't really have any specifying words for clothing - that is, the ones we do have, aren't danish words: cardigan, sweater, cargo pants, t-shirt, etc.
and also, the same goes for shoes and patterns, now that I think about it. there are some general terms for shoes, off the top of my head, I can only think of two specifying names for men's shoes that doesn't include sneakers. And if I said I wanted a 'houndstooth' coat ( in English or Danish ) people would look at me funny.
also, christmas cards!! :D
